Scatter Pin, Tie Tack, Tie Tac :

|
Scatter pins and tie
tacks at first glance may appear the same but there is a difference. A
tie tack is going to have to be longer then a scatter pin would be to
work. A tie tack prong must be able to go through 4 pieces of fairly
thick material. Most scatter pin applications are going to go through
one fairly thin piece of material like a hat or a lapel. As with most
findings in this industry there are a large and confusing array of these
types of pins to choose from. Some of the things to consider Would be
the size of the gluing/soldering pad. Generally sizes are 4mm- 12mm. The
length of the post mostly between 5/16 and 3/8. And the style of clutch
you want to use with the tack.
Clutches available for tacks include the very popular
pinch type. These are simple and inexpensive the style you see on
military pins and such...The mechanical clutch. This is a spring loaded
style. They look nice on tie tacks and some can be had with a chain
attached to attach to a shirt. On the down side they are pricey and are
prone to breakage. Lastly there is a very inexpensive rubber clutch that
can be used.
