This stone is what we call a matrix stone. It is man made. I use this term to refer to stones created out of small pieces of material, then bound together with a very hard stone like compound. Something like a very hard resin. You see this type process used in fancy granite, marble or stone counter tops. Please note these are not perfectly calibrated, you can not rely on it fitting a particular setting, maybe, maybe not. It varies from stone to stone a bit. These are hard but not actual stone so you can probably file or trim them at the base a bit if you really needed too.
