SOLD I can not recall where I bought this piece but it was one I had wanted in my collection for awhile. I have had it at least 15 years. It is in good shape. the felt on the bottom is worn as shown. I have seen a few of this design over the years and a lot of times the turtle which is supposed to have its legs and tail move is broken, .....this paperweight works perfectly each leg and the tail work jumping up and down. The paperweight is marked Souvenir of Cherokee N.C. . Size is 3 inches across, condition aside from felt is excellent. Most of these I have seen for sale over the years claim to be made in the 1890's Here is a little quote from Kovels Antique guide that seems to support that dating.
"Gillinder pressed glass was first made by William T. Gillinder of Philadelphia in 1863. The company had a working factory on the grounds at the Centennial and made small, marked pieces of glass for sale as souvenirs. "
